In:dependent: My Favorite Highway

Looking for a new great new sound in independent music? The group from out of Fairfax, Virginia, My Favorite Highway is making waves everywhere they are being heard. With a sound that is correctly compared to groups like The-All American Rejects, Third Eye Blind and The Fray, My Favorite Highway’s sound is infectious. The group, made up of brothers Bobby and Brian and cousins Will and David wanders between a pop sound on songs like “Calendar Marks” and punk in “Murder on the Radio.” My Favorite Highway shows their talent and versatility in being able to alternate between fast-paced songs like “How to call a bluff” and slower piano driven ballads like “Unaware” that will please emo fans. Lead singer David’s voice is reminiscent of Brendan Urie and Fall out Boy’s Patrick Stump with guitar licks that will have you stomping your feet to the beat.
My Favorite Highway formed in January of 2005, but with the sound of their pre-release, Anywhere But Here, one would assume the group has been together for several years. For an independent release, the quality of the recording is absolutely stunning, particularly showing up on the piano intros of songs like “You’re making it come alive” and “How to call a bluff.” Lead singer David writes most of the band’s songs, penning many of his own life experiences that have influenced him and where he is right now. The pre-release contains five tracks, with a full-release set to release sometime after the group returns to the studio next June.
